So, finally, here I am in the Romdeng restaurant that is run by Friends International, organisation busy with helping kids gain professional skills and find a proper job. This restaurant is a training centre where all those young people can practise in the catering industry.
I must say it’s the nicest welcome so far in any place although I was treated everywhere like a friend. This place is also known for offering dishes with insects.
I order Crispy Tarantulas Served with Lime and Pepper Sauce and Stir Fried Red Tree Ants with Beef and Holy Basil with a nice guava shake just in case it goes wrong. But it doesn’t. The dishes are actually surprisingly tasty once you ignore the obviously unsettling look.
Three tarantulas and a plate full of ants later I head to La Casa Del Habano, apparently the only place in Phnom Penh where you can get Cuban cigars and 17 year old Hibiki whisky.
For relaxing times, make it Suntory time…
